An Ongoing Focus
to be Incident Free
From the office support staff to the most seasoned field teams, Buckner requires that all employees keep safe practices at the forefront of their work day. Beginning at new-hire orientation, our safety department works daily to instill practices and procedures that promote and ongoing safe environment. Consistent training on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis allows employees to continue learning the most up-to-date regulations and suggestions on how to stay safe in the workplace. These processes have created a safety culture that is second to none in the heavylifting industry.
The emphasis we place on safety is reflected in our Experience Modification Rate (EMR), which is one of the lowest in the industry at a .72 in 2018.
Employees are Our Most Valuable Resource
One reason we are able to provide our customers with such a superior safety record is that Buckner’s most valuable resource is its employees. Many of Buckner’s employees are second and third generation with the company, creating a caring family culture. The resulting performances and attitudes have provided safe working environments for our employees, as well as a reputation among our customers and peers as a company that productively performs quality work safely. We chose to invest in our employees knowing that our investment in them creates an investment in the industry. We offer multiple accreditation and training programs that allow our employees to gain knowledge and skills to protect themselves and their peers.
Sharing in the Responsibility
Owners, managers, and employees know that nothing is more important to Buckner than each person’s safety. All Buckner employees share a personal responsibility for their own safety, the safety of their co-workers, and the associated crafts. Throughout all of our heavylifting jobs, efficiency, precision, and skill are what we demonstrate every day. None of these benefits can accrue, however, unless we adhere to a strict dedication to safety. Our Safety and Risk Managers, led by our Vice President of Safety and Risk Management, have years of experience both in the field and as leaders, allowing them to view every issue from all sides. These leaders share the responsibility with their employees, creating open lines of communication that increases awareness throughout our teams.
A Culture of Communication
The safety culture within the Buckner organization is based on the belief that all our work can be performed in an incident and injury free environment. In order to reach this constant goal we rely on all of our employees to communicate, with their peers, their managers and our partners. Buckner has created company wide incentive programs that reward our employees who speak up and stand out with respect to safe work practices. This emphasis on communication and connection to each other has created a honest and open culture of safety.
